I saw the first video yesterday or the day before. And I don't entirely get it.... Does it look like that in real life or just on camera?
 
It looks curled in real life. If you look closely you can see that the piece of tubing rotates in "sync" with the tone frequency.

The reverse effect is strictly a camera thing - the wave is 23 Hz and the camera is at 24 (or 23.976 if you want to be specific).

You don't see that at all with the naked eye. You need either a 24 fps camera OR a light strobe.

It's kinda classic "playing with waves".
