Formatting SD Cards

This might be a purely academic question, but how do you guys format your SD cards?

I've always just clicked through the preset options, and it's worked out ok, but could I be getting better performance? I tried to google some of the options but wasn't really able to find much that was specifically geared toward SD cards and/or video.

I found a number of debates between NFTS and exFAT, but nothing conclusive, and nothing regarding SD cards or video. I am also unclear on what allocation unit size effects.

Any insight?

Allocation unit size is the smallest amount of space used by a file. If the file is larger than the allocation unit size, more blocks of the same size will be used until the file is stored.

But the easiest, and best, option is to format the card in the device it will be used in. The device will automatically format the card in the preferred format. If the device doesn't have an option to format a card, the manual should tell you the best settings.
