Firewire cable question....

...I just purchased some Firewire cables: 4 to 4 pin, 4 to 6 pin and I will be getting a 9 to 4 pin as well. I know that they will all connect my camera to my NLE, but can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 3 different cables? My camera is a 4 pin, but my computer has 6 pin and 9 pin.

what is the difference? btw, can I get the 9 to 4 pin at say, Radio Shack? the people at Best Buy acted as if they didn't know what I was talking about....

9-pin is FireWire 2

It's backwards-compatible with regular FireWire (6-pins & 4-pins).

If your Mac(?) has a FW2 connection and you are downloading from a camera that is only FW1, it will not make anything go any faster. Connections can only send as fast as they can send, and receive as fast as they can receive.

Having a pipeline that allows for more data transfer won't make it happen, unless both ends are capable.
