editing Final Cut - Change Speed or Conversion for slomo?

Hi,

To achieve slow motion I recently shot footage at 50p then just changed the speed in FCP to 50%. The quality doesn't look as good though and I was wondering if it would be better to convert the footage to 25p instead of just changing the speed. Would this work?

Yeah, you'd be much better off converting the footage to 25p in Cinema Tools (see Philip Bloom's tutorial). This is a one way process though, so make sure you duplicate your footage before converting it if you still want access to a 50p clip.

FCP is non destructive. It never changes the original footage. It only creates information with what to do with the footage. When you convert footage in FCP, the original footage stays wherever it is on your drive, untouched, and the conversions will automatically create a new version of the original in the converted format. :]
