External HD questions.

About to shoot a feature with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Most of the footage will be ProRes, some of the scenes will be shot RAW, so I'm figuring I'll need around 4 TB of storage to be safe, does that sound OK?

I've had 2 externals fail on me in the past and I've read horror stories about ever single major brand, so I just don't know what to buy at this point.

I was looking at the G-RAID technology ones but saw several bad reviews.

I'll be editing on a slowish? (2.4 ghz intel core i5, 4GB ram) Mac Book Pro, but it's very new and has a thunderbolt connection, so is it worth it to buy a HD that supports that?

Does the thunderbolt connection's speed apply only when transferring files to the drive, or does it help during actual editing and playback?

I'm assuming I'll want something that spins at 7200 Rpms?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd go with the G RAID if you're editing from them. I have G-Drives and I've never had an issue.
If you're editing from them you're going to want 7200rpm. AFAIK, Thunderbolt speeds are I/O and not just input.

I'd upgrade your RAM as much as possible.
