Elmo super 104 super 8

Well i just bought this camera off of ebay and when i got it the battery case is missing. It is a small case that you put the 4 batteries in and then slide that into the cam. Does anyone know anyway i could maybe get it to run with just the 4 batteries in the cam without the case, or anywhere i could look for the case itself? any help would be apreciated

I have the Super 106 which is similar and I have a manual I downloaded from the Filmshooting site. The camera has a remote socket which in fact you can power the camera through using an external battery pack or AC adapter. I used to do this with the Elmo C300 which has a similar remote socket. I can check my camera for the voltage polarity but I believe the center pin is positive. It might also be possible to replace the battery case using an inline battery pack from Radio Shack though I haven't tried this. I can take my battery case to Radio Shack to see if they are similar in size and shape.

I checked the Super 8 list and the only difference between the 104 and the 106 is the zoom lens. Yes, my case does take 4 AA batteries. You might be able to work around the lack of a case by taping the batteries together with a wire connecting the stack at one end.

When holding the camera so the lens is facing to your left you will see the remote jack on the lower right of the body. This is for connecting a remote switch which in fact is wired into the power system of the camera. Lacking a battery case you can use this remote jack to feed power to the camera. You would need to find a power jack (Radio Shack has them) and wire a battery pack to it. Since I shoot animation I got an AC adapter with an assortment of changeable jacks to power the camera when its on my animation stand. I think it's about 6 volt 300 milliamps.

oh ok, thanks a lot for the help, one more thing, when you say a wire connecting the stack at one end. Do you mean from the two little springs in the back of the battery compartment to the end of the batteries?

Yes, the batteries are in series so you would need to complete the circuit. One other thing, the battery case has a long groove on the bottom. If you look inside the camera you will see a ridge that goes between the batteries.

ceej, I didn't see this post until just now. But glad you got help from Herb. Congrats on getting the camera and getting into the Super 8 film format. I agree with Zen post some pics of it when you got it all up and pretty! :)

heres some pics, i ended up usin a penny, some elctical tape and cardboard. It runs great and everything functions properly now.
