Dynamic Mic With SL1? Help!

I have just been given a Sony F-500S Dynamic Microphone, and I was trying to use it with my Canon SL1. The plug fit in perfectly, but as soon as I turned the mic on, I lost all control of the camera, and it started taking pictures! I want to be able to use this mic with my camera, so please help!

that's a wild coincidence! The camera has a mic and an IR remote control jack. The microphone is Dictaphone mic from 1979 with an on\off control plug and a mic plug.. the mic fitting into both the cameras mic jack and ir jack is a pretty amazing coincidence.

This will NEVER WORK. for a many reasons, the least of which is you plugging something into the IR jack that is definitely not a cannon remote control.

Pretty funny though, hopefully your camera aint busted.
