Hi LDS - it depends on what features you want and what you mean by "affordable" 
You can get a basic 7 inch 800x480 monitor with focus peaking and a hood for less than £80 that will do the job, but it wont give you zebras or a histogram.
For that, you would have to step up to a £164 5 inch Lilput 569 o/p.

I have also just found something on extreme low-no budget... dont want to make it as an advertisement but, i ""discovered"" something called DSLR Controller, it is an application for android (taps and mobile phones) and people seem to love it and adore it and it is only £7 (or about $
