DSLR helmet cam?

Hi everyone, I want to film a FPS shooter video for YouTube and instead of using a Go Pro like the rest of YouTube, I want to mount my Rebel T3i to a helmet.

In this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW2yLEqs1qU freddiew shows his mount for his rebel t2i and I want to build something similar.

Does anyone know of any tutorials or can send me links to builds for this?

Thanks

FullHD 1080p - Waterproof - MPEG-4 - SDHC - 5 megapixel sensor - USB - Composite - Component - Wearable - Fixed Focus - 3.3 ounce
GoPro's HD Helmet HERO is a highest performance wearable 1080p HD video and still photo camera. Professional quality 1080p/960p/720p HD resolutions record at 30 and 60 frames per second (60 fps in 720p). Record up to 2.5 hours on a single charge and up to 9 hours total on a 32GB SD card. The camera can also shoot automatic 5MP photos at 2/5/10/30 and 60 second intervals during your activity, hands free. Press the shutter button once at the start of your activity and record up to 2.5 hours of poster-print quality photos of you and your friends, living it up.

While IndieBudget provides a better link far more suitable for your purpose.. as you've stated you want to mount the Canon.... I'm not entirely sure how to go about that. Mounting a DSLR is kind of iffy and I imagine the camera will probably go out of focus quite a bit. I'd def do something similar to the go-pro setup though with a ski helmet of sorts.

Freddiew's isn't too complex. Had some metal hanging out the front with a 1/4-20 screw to hold the camera and a small weight to counterbalance it.

You'll need a really wide lens to emulate the field of view and if your outdoors in the sun with a wide lens, you'll have a really, really deep DOF so focus shouldn't be too much of an issue.

When I say wide, on your crop sensor you'll need like 10-15mm probably, somewhere in there.

Do you have an iPhone? There's a cheap director's viewfinder app that ylucan use to figure out your focal length. Or a real drector's viewfinder haha. Or, if you already have an ultra wide lens, then you can use your camera to test it.

Do you think an 18mm would work?
