'Drag Me to Hell'

I liked it a lot. Old-school appeal...scarey...well done. And pulling off that kind of a horror nowa'days being PG-13 is a tough act, and they did well.
I wasn't a huge fan of the lead though. No matter...Sam rocks.
Really, really, really disappointed. I'm a fan, and I love the concept of the old school "gypsy curse" horror movie, but Justin Long... c'mon... seriously... and the "BOO!" moments, all 99,784,678 of them. That gets REALLY old after a while.
It scared the crap out of my girlfriend multiple times as well. Justin Long seriously almost ruined the entire movie for me the way Keanu ruined the Gary Oldman Dracula movie a few years back. The "Boo!" scare is the cheapest scare, a monkey can execute it, I expected better from Sam.
I understand what you mean gonzo, but come on, you have to admit it was fun. And to me at least, that's all it's about. Who the hell cares if it was "a work of art" if nobody had fun watching it. I thought Justin Long's performance wasn't bad at all. This movie was the perfect experience. When I wasn't laughing, I was scared, and when I wasn't scared, I was laughing. I loved it.
My expectations were just too high I think. I went in hoping it was gonna be incredible, and it was eh, ok, not bad.
i havent seen this movie, nor do i plan on it, but i just want to comment on the 'boo' factor in film. I think it's ridiculous. anyone can cut to a creepy face and make a loud sound to scare a crowd. and i stress... ANYONE. But you have to have talent to stay away from that and really scare a crowd. that's what i want to see. the boo factor is cheap, it takes no talent or creativity. BORING and KITSCH.
One "Boo" scares in general, they have their place, I have ONE in my film, and in a stylized (and it was) genre movie like Drag Me to Hell, multiple is fine, he just overdid it IMO.
I have to disagree--when it's done properly that is. Not just anyone can build tension properly...there is a formula. And not anyone knows when to insert the BOO! moment. And not just anyone can implant wickedly disturbing footage at the precise moment. It does take talent to pull it off effectively. And I think Sam did that in DMTH...
Although I do agree...it was over-done.
I loved it - it was awesome. So nice to see a film that wasn't "torture porn" and I never got tired of the "BOO" moments - I jumped every single time and literally screamed out-loud in the theater for one of them. It not only was scarey, but had a few slightly "goofy" moments that made the film really fun as well.

It had a lame, cop out, typical horror movie ending. For Christ's sake, the entire trailer is a spoiler, as is the poster!
I don't need a happy ending, but if you go with an unhappy one, make it something we don't see coming from the first frame? Make it something bold, creative, ect? Look, I wanted better.
Also, when you have an opening like that, and that Spiritualist vowing to see the demon once more, we want something more out of the confrontation. You know, beyond just padding for the rest of the movie.
But I did like the fact that demonic hallucinations can be stopped with slapstick actions.
