DOCUMENTARY TIPS?

I'm making a documentary. It will be like a fly on a wall documentary, following the training, and everyday life, of a guy in the build up to a world record attempt.

Can anyone give me any tips? whether it be, what cameras or mics are best or what style or anything???

anything you can give me to help me out, will be a great help! :)

My only tip is to decide if you are truly going to be a "fly on the wall" or interact with the subject. When I am filming races I may be with a Team for 24 hours or more. I feel it is to long just to watch, I end up being sort of a team member. If they ask for my input I will give it. I think that makes it much more interesting to watch.

Not enough information.

What kind of attempt? Is he training to be a flag pole sitter? Swallowing goldfish? Climbing a mountain? Jumping out of an airplane?

All of these things will determine your gear requirements, your personal involvement and dictate to a degree the style.

Oh, yeah... What kind of budget do you have and what equipment do you already own? That will also have a very large influence on gear, involvement and style.

hes attempting a singing record, cant really say too much. have a minimal budget and at the moment i have a 14 inch shotgun mic and a suitable hd camera.

Get as much coverage as you can. You never know when an interesting plot point of your story will crop up, so make sure your camera is rolling as much as possible.
