Nice looking. I can't get smoothness too, my hands jerk at times ... I can practice or buy motorized version (since money is the issue, ... practice)

There are many DIY projects for sliders and other gear. Some are well worth it. Try it out and see the results for yourself. You can always add on to the project to make it even better. Good luck
