difference between zoom and steadicam

Was just wondering what the main differences between zooming and an walking in or dollying in. I've heard zoom is the least effective way to do this. Anyone know of an example? Thanks.

Well, the best way is to test it for yourself. Just take your camera and do a zoom and then a walk. You'll notice the difference! Dolly looks way better most of the time. However there're times when a zoom fits perfectly.

Would like to say something that might be obvious but; it also depends on whether you are talking about optical vs. digital zoom.
