Cost of film permits by city in LA

I've never found a list either.

But I called FilmLA and while they didn't have the time to read off
the fee for every, single city and unincorporated area in the greater
Los Angeles area, they were more than willing to answer specific
questions. You will also find that many cities in the L.A. area have
the information on their website. Takes some time to research.

You should do all your fellow filmmakers a favor: as you search and
get the numbers you should put together the database you're looking
for and post the link here. So next time someone asks we can point
them to your research.

I emailed FilmLA and it's actually MORE expensive than I thought!

The basic fees are:
Application - $625
Fire Spot Check - $85
Notification - $155

Total forward: $865 !!!!!!!!! That's highway robbery! No wonder everyone is leaving town!!!!

Filming in some cities also may require the following
**FilmL.A. Monitor - $30 per hour, time and a half after 8 hours, double time after 12. They are scheduled to arrive 1 hour prior to the permitted start time.
**Fire Officer (if a large cast/crew and/or use of any generator) - $64 per hour (4 hr minimum plus 1 hour travel time).

$30 an hour to be a FilmLA monitor? Kushy government job. What kind of college degree do you need to watch over a film shoot????? I'm guessing that you don't even need high school education. Not bad for $30 an hour!

I agree, that's crazy expensive.

Then on top of all that location owners want a LOT of money to
use their property. Some want $1,000 per day. Some even more.
It's expensive to shoot in L.A.

Did the email say what cities require a FilmLA monitor?

I'm actually only looking to rent my home. I wonder if there's a fine if I rent to a crew that has no permit?

If I was shooting then I agree. I wouldn't pay what they are robbing Los Angelinos.
