Copyright???

Maybe Indietalk can address this one. Everyone seems to be very willing to put their work up on this site, but what is stopping people from taking material? I'm not accusing anyone of doing so, but I just want to look out for everyone, cause this is an issue in the industry. I didn't read all of the user agreement, so I don't know if anything was listed in there about taking someone elses material, but still, if someone does, what protection does the originator have if they didn't copyright their work? Oh, and these days the poor man's copyright doesn't get you much backing if something does happen. Just wondering and looking out for everyone. Thanks.

Well, the members here seem adult enough not to steal from anyone. I'm just weary of lurkers.

I would hope anyone who posts screenplays would have them copyrighted.

Pappy,
You're right about the poor mans copyright, it's becomming less and less accepted as true. But it only costs $35 to copyright something. I'm sure that $35 is a drop in the bucket compared to the time it takes to hash out a script. The hours spent on developing and actually writing a script is far too valuable to spread it around the internet without protection. If something did happen, and the work wasn't copywritten, then it's gone. So I hope you all see the importance of copyrighting your schtuff.
