Converting a playscript to a film?

For my drama course, at some point a devised piece needs to be written.
I can't way to do it and already have ideas for themes to look at: chiefly the loss of faith and revolution.
I had the idea of also one of the characters being a ghost, but the other characters can see him at certain points, I suppose they'd be a bit more surreal than the majority of the play.

Anyway, to drill down to the bedrock of my question, once the script is written, despite naturally being in a different format, would it be feasible to get a cast and simply shoot a film adaptation of the play?

It has been done for 100 years - thousands of plays have been
adapted for the movies. It is feasible.
