Competition?

Hey people!
I've had an account on this website for a while now but not really managed to post anything.
But now I have a question: I would like to know, if i have a complete short film where could I enter for stuff like competitions, I just want some of our shorts to gain some recognition. Plus is it a good idea to post on YouTube as well? I'm only 16 btw with help from enthusiastic friends.

Thanks:D

There's no reason to post it on YouTube. Protect your creation. If you have a film that is festival-worthy, then you want to control who sees it.

Check the link from the above post. WithoutABox is a great resource. Different festivals have different guidelines and different tastes. You may have to search the listings and see if your film would interest any of them.

I think the answer to this depends on the film.

Submitting to festivals and competitions (usually) costs a small(ish) fee, so you might want to make sure that the film is of the right sort of quality for the festival. Personally I've never felt like I've produced something of good enough all round quality to both submitting to competitions, where the standard tends to be quite high.

I would say that you should think about how the good the film is (perhaps upload it to Vimeo and password protect it so that we can take a look at it here?) before signing up to Withoutabox and sending it out to lots of festivals.

But, yes, my advice is to do a protected viewing so that people can offer a greater insight into what you should do.

Ahh thanks guys this website seems very cool, but in festivals and competitions, are there usually any restrictions tou your age?

Some might. So you need to read the requirements on the
festivals and competitions you are interested in entering. There
are some festivals and competitions that are specifically for
teens.
