Cellphone debate

Should I got with the Blackberry Curve 9330 which is free with a 2 year contract or the iPhone 8GB which is $99 with a 2 year contract?

I would go with the iPhone. I would consider getting an iPhone with more memory than 8gb because you could fill that up pretty fast if you like to use the ipod function. If you don't plan on using the ipod function then I guess 8GB is enough.

The iPhone is easier to use would be my guess. I tried a Blackberry once and did not like it. The iPhone is very intuitive. I have heard good things about Droid phones if you don't want the iPhone.

The iPhone 5 is coming out in the near future probably in the fall. Just a heads up to that. I think the iPhone 4S would be very nice. I got the iPhone 3gS and am happy with it. I got 16 GB version. Still was not enough for my whole record collection to be on my phone let alone putting movies on if i wanted to.

Kind of depends on what you use your phone for. I, myself, prefer my BlackBerry over my iphone but I also use it as to write and draft things and don't really play games or watch videos /movies on my phone.

Get the iPhone. I've never met anyone who's been thoroughly pleased with their Blackberry (although I'm sure they exist), but I know tons of people happy with their iPhones. I have a Droid 3 and I wish I had gotten an iPhone instead.

I am not going to watch videos or play games on it either. I am going to use it for reading/writing emails, and instant messaging.

For business purposes, the Blackberry continues to reign supreme, though I'm not sure of the specific model you're eyeballing. Also, I think it's supremacy is due only to relatively low-cost. The iPhone is so much better, in every respect.

For personal purposes, absolutely nothing even compares to the iPhone. This is like choosing between DiGiorno and Totino's frozen pizza. Spend a hundred bucks, get the iPhone, I promise you'll be happy with it.

And then watch this movie, on your iPhone. :D

I am getting the 9330 which is the Curve "social media" Blackberry. It is for my business. I should have it in hand in 2 days.

A matter of opinion - I still think that the blackberry (Bold 9900) still offers the best emailing, drafting/writing experience out there for any phone, hands down.

And, not to hijack the thread, but I never really understood the point of watching videos/tv/movies on a phone - its such a small screen (after the years of pushing to 50"+ 1080p screens). I guess I am just an old fuddy duddy that prefers to watch his videos and movies on his television screen (and yes, I succumbed to 50"+ 1080 p pressure)

Nope, sorry, my opinions are actually fact. ;)

As you mentioned, the Blackberry tends to be better for sending emails. In fact, for sending emails, I would choose a droid, with a physical keyboard, over the iPhone, any day.

But for personal usage, email isn't such a huge priority for most people. That's more of a business thing. For personal usage, the iPhone KILLS the Blackberry. The apps, the touch-screen, the internet browser, taking pics, shooting video, google-maps, watching videos, battery-life, reception, texting, it is incomparable to any other product out there.

And yes, you are an old fuddy-duddy if you don't enjoy watching video on your iPhone. The convenience is great. You're having a water-cooler conversation with friends/coworkers. Somebody mentions the latest hilarious cat video on youtube. Oh, guess what? Instead of maybe trying to remember to watch it later, you can all watch it NOW, and have a shared youtube-cat-video experience! :D

Cat videos... all the more reason not to have an iPhone. I think they should ban all cat videos on YouTube

Texting and battery life?????? No way - apps, sure but only apps I use are for running, keeping up to date with scores, fb, and the weather. Don't know what else I would need when I could just go to the Site if need be. But battery life - you've got to be kidding me. I could go 2 days easily on my blackberry without charging. I could barely make 10 hours with my iphone. And I prefer a keyboard to type on - he'll, I'm still getting used to my tablets keyboard and I've had it for about a year.

And people still hang around the water cooler? I thought everyone was too busy and just Facebook, gchat or Skype when they're in the same room?

I am definitely in the minority...I use my cellphone for e-mail more than anything else. Try to avoid making calls on it, actually. For this, I like having a keyboard. My phone is an old crappy cheap one, but it has a keyboard, so I'm pleased with it.

I can't imagine a world in which I would want an iPhone. But, again, minority opinion.
