First, an announcement: Mark your calendars, set an alarm, tell your friends…the 2023 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival is set for April 14-15 at Collins Road Theatres!
Second, we're very excited to announce that the Call for Entries for the 2023 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival is now open. With the postponement, it's been a couple of years since we put out a call. This year, we've joined FilmFreeway, the world's #1 way to enter film festivals - streamlining the process, from submission to screen!
Every entrant is welcome to one complimentary full-event ticket, and has the opportunity to schedule a personal Conversation with the Judges, on Sunday, April 16. This rare opportunity for one-on-one feedback has long been a hallmark of the Festival, and is regarded by many filmmakers as the most valuable perk of entry.
Our rules are outlined in great detail on our website and the FilmFreeway page, however the one rule that sets us apart from any other film festival in the world is the Iowa Connection. This could be any one of a number of things: a key crew member or actor born, lived, educated or worked in Iowa; a story set in Iowa or about Iowans; or a significant part of the film was produced in Iowa. If you don't think you qualify, ask your cast and crew...Iowans are everywhere!
In addition to being screened twice for our enthusiastic audience, selections are honored with a commemorative shirt with the film and filmmaker name on the back, featured on promotional statewide media, and advancement into the Eddy Awards competition. Gold and Silver Eddy Awards are presented in Professional, Pro-Am and Student categories for Features, Shorts, Documentaries, and "Freestyle" (experimental, music video, video art, etc.) films. We also award the Audience Choice Eddy, voted on by audience members.
The Iowa Connection Eddy is awarded to that film which best represents Iowa's filmmaking community. It's a film that tells the world WHO is making films in Iowa, WHY they're doing it in this state, and WHAT Iowa stories are being told. Finally, the $1000 Collins Road Theatres Scholarship is awarded to a student filmmaker to further the recipient's filmmaking education.
We have 3 deadlines, with entry fees cheapest for the Earlybirds. There are also discounts for being FilmFreeway Gold Members.
Pro and Pro-Am Entry Fees:
$40 by Jan. 2 / $36 for Gold Members
$45 / $40.50 by January 22
$55 / $49.50 by February 13
Student Entry Fees:
$30 / $27; $35 / $31.50; $45 / $40.50
Please share this information with friends and family, and the members of your filmmaking community; visit our website, and follow and share us on social media (links below). Thank you for your help in making the 2023 Festival the best one yet!
Here is that all-important FilmFreeway CRIFF Entry Button!Since we haven't had a Call for Entries since 2020, we can't wait to see what's been created! Hope to see you and your work at the festival!
