Camera/cell phone pairings

I did an IT search, but couldn't find anything on this subject. I think it's a pretty neat idea. I'd be tempted to get one of these three, if not for the fact that the camera already on my phone is pretty F'ing sweet (Samsung Galaxy S7).

Anybody tried one of these yet? I think the Olympus looks best, seeing as how it allows interchangeable lenses. I'm currently working on getting interchangeable lenses onto my phone, and not those shitty little ones that can be purchased for $20.

The technology gap keeps shrinking, rejoice, rejoice!

It looks like they've come a long way. I don't like the idea of spending money on an item you're going to throw away shortly and would have limited use. I had an early one of those "lens on a camera" devices given to me back when Tangerine was news. I gave it away before I exited the room.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy one. Looks like they're mostly beneficial to family photographers. I can see some benefits to the Olympus, though, what with it's interchangeable lenses. Only real advantage I can think of, for a filmmaker, would be the ability to put the camera in some places where you couldn't put a camera operator, and then operate it remotely.

Like, let's say you wanted to get a dutch angle from the absolute farthest corner of the room, the camera on the floor. Of course a traditional camera would make that a pain in the butt. Much easier if you can control remotely.

But that's not much of an advantage. I guess the other advantage is that it's only $300. Maybe worth considering for a newb?

Not sure if it goes with your philosophy of newbs not spending money on equipment ;)

Word. I guess I should rephrase. Maybe worth a relatively-new filmmaker considering. Yes, I still say just go out and make a movie with the camera you already have in your pocket/purse. But when the time comes to make a purchase, maybe this is a good way to hang out in the wading pool before diving into the deep end?
