The First Annual Atlanta Underground Film Festival (AUFF) is on a mission to elevate the concept of cinema from simple entertainment to a prestigious art form.  We focus on exposing the many innovative yet underrepresented film/video artists who continuously break the boundaries of self expression.
These artists yearn for a voice in a market which is typically saturated with commercial entertainment designed for the masses. AUFF was created as a forum where these underground film and video artists can thrive outside the mainstream arena.
This years festival will feature local, national, and international short and feature length film and videos in conjunction with film-maker conferences, music concerts, art openings, late night parties, and other multi-media events. AUFF promises the biggest celebration of indie film, music, and art in the southeast. The majority of the festival will be held at 660 Irwin St., a new media arts center which is currently under a one million dollar renovation. The center will feature a theater with love-seat seating for 100+, a 15 ft screen, state-of-the-art sound technology, an artists gallery, lounge, artists work studios, and offices, and will be completed in June 2004.
Due to the fact that AUFF is held in an election year, the festival is sponsoring The Underground Election, a special project relating to America’s 2004 presidential election. The Underground Election is a contest designed to inspire political activism in the arts community by inviting emerging film and video artists to create their own “Presidential Advertisements.” Entries will be screened at the festival, where audience members will choose the winner, and awards will be given for the most inspiring film or videos. Videos can either be about a particular canidate, or a certain political issue. Email election@auff.org for more info.
Much more than a yearly event, AUFF is dedicated to promoting dynamic, innovative talent at our monthly multi-media events as well, held on the final Tuesday of each month at MJQ Concourse in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information on our monthly showcases, which feature indie cinema, live music, and visual art, visit www.wellfairatlanta.org
