Blind Copies

We completed our movie late 2007. Did the festival this in 2008, which was fun but ended with no distribution deal. My question is, should we send copies to various distributors that we have researched or should we do the whole online distribution ourselves? (ie: CreateSpace, Filmbaby...)

It all depends on the deals you're offered. If no distributors are biting, and you can't seem to put together a meeting with anyone, or if you do get a meeting, but the offer is very low, then it's probably best to self-distribute.

The DVD market really stinks now--it's going to be pretty tough to find a distributor no matter what. Some genre films may find it easier to land distribution, but if your film is very general, it may be more difficult.

The newest copy of IndieSlate just had an entire article on self-distribution...you should grab a copy.

You should send screeners to all the distributors
you have researched. If you don't get offers in
what ever time frame you set, then try the self
distribution route.
