Saw this last night with some friends. Good stuff. Not Aronofsky's strongest work, but still good. Astounding technical achievement with the use of mirrors throughout the film. Natalie Portman is okay, but the rest of the film around her as the effect of boosting the impact of her performance. Mila Kunis came off as just being herself, which is either really awesome acting, or just being herself. Hard to tell.
Without spoiling - I think they borrowed too many shots from The Wrestler, and the sound design was not as strong as in his other films - some of the more subtle/surreal sounds didn't work as well as ones he has used in films like Requiem, Wrestler, or PI. All in all solid, but this movie seemed more made for an audience than for himself or for other film makers. Something about it just lacks the power of his other films. Still good, I still recommend it and enjoyed it. I'm just picking nits.
Also, the s16 looks amazing - but in the hands of a dp like Libatique I'd expect no less.
The most interesting thing about the viewing was that it was a sold out screening full of young women who all appeared to be or have been ballet dancers. The reactions from that crowd made the whole thing seem more visceral in a way that I normally don't notice.
