Bill Murray is very rare in that he basically plays the same character (deadpan, pouty, funny... himself really) and pulls it off.

This reminds me of a comment I read from Jack Nicholson about characters he plays. He said, "I think about my characters, and ask myself, 'What does he want? What are his motivations?' And I realize I haven't the fainest clue. So, I ask myself, 'What do I want? What are MY motivations?' And that's how I play him."
