Best Software for .MOD files

My camcorder gives me .mod files and it seems like these aren't used in many softwares I've seen. I've tried converters but they seem only to screw with my original clips.

Something free would be nice, if not free at least something not to expensive.

I'm using a Canon FS200

seems MOD files can just be renamed .MPG as they are mpeg files.

FWIW, I've had no problems capturing into Vegas Pro 9 with the FS200. I just put the card into a card reader, import the clips, and drop the clips from my video library into the timeline. I haven't had issues with the MOD file type.
