Best Movie Website

Hey guys, we're about to start on the website for the short we're working on. Principal Photography is the second week of November, first festival deadlines are the first week of December, and we'd like to release it online end of the year. With those deadlines, it's nice to start the web design early :)

I don't know that I've ever seen a movie site that I've really been happy with. Either they're all flash and not functional, or boring and uninformative.

What are the best ones you've seen?

You mean a Website for a specific movie?

Assuming that's what you mean then I'd say that you're best of going with a Flash design and getting the multimedia element across asap. I'm presuming the purpose is to promote the movie in which case you want to get people watching the trailer pretty much from the moment that they click on the website.

The one that springs to mind is http://www.sweeneytoddmovie.com/ which I guess is pretty old now and hawking DVDs rather than the cinematic version. But this is standard of film websites which tend to be designed to be intensely visual and sell the product.

The disadvantage of Flash is that for most websites it's difficult to change and update, but a movie website doesn't have that problem as it's only really active for a period of a few months, sometimes less. So I would go with Flash unless you are looking for something other than just advertising your film.

Yes, talking about an individual movie. The website will promote the movie and link back to the production company page.

Not a huge fan of flash personally. Some is ok, but it's so incompatible with most devices now days.

Maybe this is a better question:

What should go onto movie website to make it the "best ever"?

I use a Flash website for Gun Town, and it's so easy, a monkey could use it. Granted, you can't access it from a smart phone, but big deal.

The thing is, it's all click and drag, etc. Very easy to use. Plus they have eCommerce.
