Being shot effect?

If I get the fx home, im able to show gun flashes and gun shot sounds.

If John Doe shoots John Smith in the chest, how can I give the effect that he is hit?

And how can I give the effect that there are bullets hitting the ground?

I appreciate the help, thanks.

We (stupidly, of course) did squibs for our shots and they worked fairly well... ahem... minus the actual "safety" thing...

What we did:

1. Using a hockey vest with thick padding, taped two cherry-bombs in place on stuntman's chest. I wouldn't recommend this method for others, but if you do, PADDING + Earplugs.
2. Attach electric igniter (from local hobby shop) to fuse and run a wire down the back
3. Score the shirt where the blasts occur and place over vest...
4. Attached wire to a switch and a battery
5. Flip switch, wait a second, blast goes off, stuntman reacts (it's pretty much method)

If you keep the shot close in to the chest so you can't see the face, the stuntman can wear head protection!! Of course, keep in mind this is EXTREMELY dangerous, we WEREN'T professionals (just lucky, I guess) and that we did EXTENSIVE testing before ANY stunt on OURSELVES.

Realistically, you can achieve the SAME effect if the actor getting hit is really good at "selling it" and the shot is place right. Other options: air compression, shooting actor with paintball gun (again, with the actor-abusing suggestions!!), throwing condoms filled with fake blood, etc...

right. Second thought, don't listen to me if you want to live.

I'm not sure. The gunshot would be easy to find or create yourself. The really important and more difficult sound effect is the "splat" of the bullet hitting human flesh. I'm not sure where to get that one, as I always kill my characters with sharp instruments.

If you already have the FXhome products there's a library of plugins on the FXhome website that simulate brass coming out of a weapon, either single cartridges or a long stream, they are positionable in EffectsLab (that's the one I got) and of course in the big combo program.

There's also a lot of plugins in the preset library on the site for bullet hits and blood spatters.

Most of the presets are created by users of the software, it's a very active community and there's a lot of help to be had on the boards there.

I discovered FXhome on the recommendation of someone on this site (Spatula I think??) and have really loved using their product.

A lot of the presets look very much like Adobe After Effects, a friend of mine uses that and loves it, I've just managed to get used to EffectsLab Pro.

Check out their online tutorials to see what you can do with the software!

Neil, can I use fx product to also edit my entire film? Or do I just use it for effects and import it back into adobe premiere to finish the editing?

And thanks for all the responses guys.

You render the video that has an effect applied to it and then open the vid in your normal editing program.

Even someone with antiquated editing software like me (world's oldest version of Sony Vegas, it's the Nova Video Explosion) can get the rendered footage lined right back up where it belongs, so it must be easy to use!!

They offer a demo version that lets you try everything out before you commit to buy, you just have to put up with a big white "X" across the screen, but I played around with it for a week or so and decided it would do the things I wanted.

That might be a good way to compare it to After Effects or some of the other effects programs that are out there.

record the sound of poking your finger into a fresh tub of vaseline, then pulling it out again suddenly! That'll sound icky and gooshy! Or a glass full of hamburger helper (careful wait til it cools).

<edit>for the sound of the bullet entering the flesh of course, not just because it's fun sickos! This is then layered over the sound of the bullet hit or punching a mattress or something.</edit>
