While the interim Avid.com/red workflow for RED originated footage is OK, Avid did a little demo of the upcoming technology in Los Angeles on November 4th. Hopefully soon we'll be able to skip the many steps and third party apps of the current workflow. See RED Avid workflow.

When Apple released Final Cut Studio 2, they (luckily) added in native RED support in the box ^^
