cinematography Aspect Ratio

Greetings all,

Recently I've been thinking about getting a 2.35 image out of my camera. It has been said that using a 16:9 camera with an anamorphic adapter will achieve this but I am not sure about this. The footage I have seen that utilizes this has appeared much wider than 2.35. More like the 2.66/2.55 of Cinemascope. Is there any reasonable way to achieve the 2.35 of Panavision and Super35 without resolution loss? I really don't want to go wider than 2.35...... in fact something around 2.22 would be more useful.

It's probably best, or at least easiest, to shoot 16X9, & then mask or crop to 2.34 (or 2.22).

Yeah that's what I figured I would have to do :(. I hate wasting the resolution but I suppose it's the only viable solution.
