Aspect Ratio feature on GH2

Hi,
I find my GH2 has 4 different aspect ratio option..
Can anyone please tell me how this feature can be used for photography and cinematography?
Should I just shoot on 16:9? Does it vary with lenses?

I think 16:9 is the way to go when shooting HD.

I have read that the crop factor of the lens varies with diff aspect ratios.. How does that work?

Aspect ratio =/=: lens, sensor, resolution.

Shoot in 16:9 (1.77:1). Crop later if you really want to change your aspect ratio. Just keep it in mind so you frame correctly.

Cameras like the T2i/T3i and 7D have 4x3 sensors and "crop", as in do not use, the whole sensor to get their 16x9 images. Cameras like the 5D use the entire 4x3 sensor to create their image, including the 16x9 frame.
