Ask me questions, help me promote my studio.

Hello,

I’m Rusty Gaidzik. I am the studio manager for Brave New Studio, a part of Brave New Foundation(BNF). BNF is a big name in the progressive social media community. The President is Robert Greenwald, who has brought us such groundbreaking documentaries as Outfoxed, Steal This Movie, and Xanadu. As a non-profit, one of the primary goals of the Foundation is to provide service to the community. One of the ways BNF has been doing that is by providing the best equipped, state of the art studio for rental at a price that the low-budget film maker can afford. Since I have been brought on at the foundation, my role has been expanded to include outreach to the community. My goal is not only to make people aware of the great advantages renting our studio can provide, but also to try and provide advice, knowledge, and general assistance to the film making community. I have extensive experience in multiple areas of production and post-production as well as knowledge of a wide variety of gear and technology. I have many specializations, among which are: stop motion, time-lapse, slow motion, light design, set construction, and IT. If you have any projects that you could use a second opinion on, a little help organizing, or just a little perspective from someone else in the industry, then please feel free to contact me. It is my hope that I will be able to establish mutually beneficial relationships with the hard-working up-and-comers of our community. Please feel free to ask me anything.

I wanted to not only welcome you to indietalk but to say thank you
for this honest first post.

So many people start with the "I found this great ______! What
do you think?" approach and it's insulting. It's great to be told a
little about your company and you. I suspect you didn't post a
link out of courtesy - nice move.

I checked out your website.

The honesty and respect for the site is refreshing.

+1 OP.

Hi Rusty,

To echo the others, it is nice to see the first post being so open, and welcome.

I'm involved with a local organization who's mandate is to help local artists in general. My specific focus is on providing equipment and services for local digital filmmakers; we are also getting a camera and optical printer for chemical film, but my focus is for the digital side. As we finish renovating the location we're setting up shop in, we'll be looking into what types of things we should set up in the location, and what we'll need in gear for both inhouse and for rent.

It sounds like we're setting up something very similar to what you've already done, I might bend you ear a bit for feedback on the types of things you've found most utilized and where you felt you've been able to make the most significant impact in helping local filmmakers.

CraigL
