Hey guys, recently I was hired to score a movie whose plot goes around late 70s US crime culture. It's an action comedy and the Director wanted some groovy old school funk-oriented Soundtrack.
First of all, the budget wasn't much, so I put "all my chips" on creating the SOUL of the Music and for that I went to an old school Vintage Recording studio and recorded the foundtaions (bass, guitar and drums) on tape, using gear and intruments from that epoch.
After that, and with the budget spent on studio/ gear/ musicians, I had to emulate additional percussion, horns and keyobards.
My idea was to have a soulful sound, vividly groovy and a little bit raw and not (all) overproduced.
What do you guys think of the final result, what would you do differently?
