Agent Manager??

I've never tried to sell a script. I have quite a few decent stories and rough drafts. But, once I have a few that are ready enough to shop, do I look for an agent or a manager? Also, I'm sure they don't want a full script dropped on their lap, how do you approach them?

Thanks: George

The short version of what can be a very difficult process:

A manager is a more personal relationship. A good one will be
connected to the business (agents and producers) but they mostly
guide a writers career. A manager usually has very few clients.
And for the most part they are only needed once a writer is
successful enough to pay someone to manage their career choices.

An agent is the business person. They have dozens of clients and
should have excellent contacts in the business. The agent
negotiates contracts.

You approach them by sending a query letter outlining your past
accomplishments and your future goals. The ones interested will
contact you and ask to read your scripts.

You might actually consider querying for both...

Why?

My experience is that managers are much more open to reading specs if they are looking for clients whereas agents (agents that can actually put deals together) almost never even read a query unless you've really managed to knock your query out of the park.

A good manager will help you obtain a good agent.
