Adobe On Location

What's the verdict?

It looks like it would be useful. I'd love to hear some real world experiences with it, though. I would guess that Mac to PC would be compatible since nothing is edited besides maybe ins and outs.

I've thought about it for VTR or a Video Assist setup, but haven't found any use for it.

Instead, I ended up just using a deck with FCP to import a video feed from the cam. If anyone has any other usage experience, PLEASE POST!

I even do greenscreen shooting in the studio, but have never used it. It's too cumbersome to be tethered to a PC and I'd rather have the DP happy and not inhibited.

Thanks. It looked that way at first glance and I remember thinking that maybe I wasn't OCD enough about metadata for it to be useful.

On things like a documentary, or just anything with more than 3-4 hours of raw footage, then metadata become really really important. Being able to search and sort with all kinds of extra information can be incredibly handy.

I just don't see how often you have the time to do that at the same time as shooting unless your script supervisor is also a camera tech and can get all that info typed in no time.

Adobe onlocation is killer, if you have a dedicated datatech using it and a system worked out with the camera ops where you're constantly switching flash cards. Having someone enter all that data in fresh is priceless when it comes to post, and you have another set of eyes looking at meters checking if the good tales are out of focus, over/underexposed etc.

Ideally, this is live but since most of us are using cameras that record to some sort of flash memory now, the cameras don't have FireWire ports so this is how it is.

I wouldn't recommend it if you're a one man crew, it's one more thing to steal your attention from places that need it more.
