So, I've been working on a short film that is an adaptation of a children's book, and I was wondering about whether or not I need rights to use the material or not. Would just putting: "Based on the book by XXXXX" in the credits work? Thanks!
You need rights. Ask the author or publisher for rights. If they say no or never reply, you can't do it. However, if it's public domain, it doesn't matter.
