btw, in London one of the universities (London Academy of Art?) has in its collection ALL of Stanley Kubrick's scripts and research notes and thousands of pages of prep work for his later films. Look for the film "Kubrick's Boxes" for a glimpse.
Stanley didn't need to write on spec, but it can give you an idea of just how much can be involved in prep.
