A question about Entry Fees

When it comes to submitting your film to a film festival and paying the entry fee, since of course some films get in and some don't, does people usually get a refund if their film doesn't get in or no ?

Also I've heard about something called a waiver, what is it about and how can someone go about using it ? All i heard is that it's a way to ask a festival if they can lower the entry fee for you. Sounds easier said then done.

does people usually get a refund if their film doesn't get in - Nooooooooooo
For waiver, Just shoot an email to film festival saying you become bankrupt while making this Film :P
and
keep sending followups emails until they say, WE WILL NOT GIVE WAIVER TO YOU. :)

Hosting a film festival costs money. It costs even more to make it a successful one, in which people actually show up to watch the movies. Entree fees are a necessary thing for the festival to stay afloat.

So no, you won't get a refund, nor should you ask for one. And that is yet another reason why you should only submit your film to festivals that you would actually be able to attend.

Best of luck!
