In one of the reading material I have, 85ND.03 function is specified as, the filter color corrects the daylight to tungsten and cuts down one stop of exposure.

In the book Cinematography for Directors (Page 54), 85ND.03 function is specified as, the filter color corrects the tungsten film to daylight film and cuts down one stop of exposure.

Which one is correct?

85 is used to correct daylight to tungsten balanced film. The error above is in the second sentence when they say it corrects tungsten film to daylight film. It's the second "film" that doesn't belong in there. It does correct tungsten film to daylight (not daylight film).
