30 second politcal ad tips

So for my media class I have to make a 30 second commercial for or against one the candidates for to 2012 election. Any tips on how to go about this? I feel like this is tricky because its only 30 seconds. Would it be better to film a lot of scenes or do something like rick perry did where it was just him standing in like a field haha. I feel like something like that would be boring, but having too many shots might look messy. Any tips?

It's going to depend upon what you want to say.

A large percentage of political ads are attack ads. They'll use a voice over to say outrageous, untrue things about the candidate they don't like - "Senator Peabrain likes to boil puppies and squash the heads of kittens under his heels, and thinks raping your daughter would be really cool" - or pull out of context and grossly distort something the candidate did say, and do the same with statistics, polling and survey results. They will cull the archives for unflattering pictures or video of the candidate. The music will be very doom and gloom.

Here's some stuff just for fun ------

How about ?? Go to an ACORN office, have someone wear wear a pimp suit and get a babe in a mini skirt, edit the videos to distort the truth. Submit to Fox News & Have fun...sorry, I had to say that. Even have the lady be the "pimp" and the guy be a transvestite hooker ???

SERIOUSLY...be creative, controversial. I like the Perry angle. have fun !

I find the Rick Perry ones in a field really funny....
Especially the one where he's like, "I'm not afraid to say I'm a Christian, but why can't my kids pray in school but gays can serve in the military?!!"
I fail to see the connection between the two haha... I digress..

But in all seriousness I think the best campaign ads are simple and drive a specific point that candidate is trying to make.

You say you can go against. You should parody Dos Equis for Rick Perry. "I don't normally use numbers, but when I do... I try to remember three things. One, my first point. Second, drive that point home. And third.......... Oops."

Then you have some voice off camera suggest something, then he confirms that, then the voice asks him if that's really it, and he confesses it's not.

Just an idea hahaha
