watch 2 short films of 2 minutes each

Hi, we're a group of (really clueless) amateurs.
We realized a pair of shorts for the Leopardino Swisscom Mobile Film Award (quite long uh?) : rules were 1) "meeting" theme, 2) max two minutes and 3) shot with a camera phone.
Both made in one evening... and to be honest, it shows.
Who votes could even win prizes, but we're asking you to vote mostly because those two videos are pieces of art! Just joking! Anyway, if you want to vote us out of pity, we won't mind : )
Let us know your opinion, but, most of all, make us win, aight?

Hey fonvoda,

I watched 2nd Encounter first and I thought it was great! Simple, effective and with a nice twist and message at the end. The short one day time frame for production doesn't really show ... Congrats!!

First Contact - Hard to critique without spoilers but I will say the set up was great ... nice banter between the actors with some social commentary thrown in - was that scripted or impro?
The end let me down - Nice idea but was not executed as well as you could have - you could have cut 10 - 20 seconds of the set up and really worked the twist - eg, I had to watch it 4 or 5 times (I am a bit slow) to get that the humans and aliens were dressed the same. This was mainly because of the red shirt ... we don't get to see that the camera holder is wearing a red shirt so a bit confusing

All in all, good job for an evening's work ... I particularly liked that you tried two very different genre's and stories.

Cheers!

@ Joa

Thank you very much for the kind words!
Regarding First Contact, it was all scripted and the problems with the final reveal were glaring already while we were shooting, but it was just too dark and too late to resolve. Gotta make lemonades if you have lemons: all experiences for next round.
Oh, and you're definetly not slow: lotsa people didn't get it! Not that I blame them...
Thanks again for your nice critique,
bye, fonvoda

Initially thought the films were related somehow. Was wondering why they were listed in (what appeared to be) reverse order.

Watched First Contact first. Didn't care for it. Having seen the explanation now, I still wouldn't rewatch it to "get it". Too poorly shot & uncrafted, for me.

Second Encounter was much better. A bit of a stereotype fantasy, but the story resolves itself well. Good job.

So now that this competition is over, do you plan on making more films? Did you get anything out of the experience?

cool

The seemingly related titles are a sort of personal in-joke...
First Contact is poorly shoot, no doubt, but quite intentionally. Nuff said, maybe too poorly!
There was lateness from the actors, so deep dark came and it was the best we could do: blame on me on the timing and coordination.
For Second Encounter, I wouldn't call it a fantasy , even if it is for sure improbable: "inspiration" came from real experiences I saw, I realized afterwards it is more or less Pretty Woman Redux.

From the competition I garnered there is always people ready to cheat...
Anyway, the actors were amateurs, but I'm a bit more experienced; if you like you can catch some more, a lot higher in photography and story quality, here:
http://vimeo.com/36825140 <--- in baaad English, not my direction, just helped out on scenario and structure
http://vimeo.com/46368873 <--- in Italian, but that's all me, subs coming (soon?)

Thank you for your comments and the time taken to watch!
