    Efficient Editing

I'm at a little bit of a loss as to why you would export anything to put back into a timeline. Obviously, if you are exporting for review or for final I do this, but I make small revisions on almost every pass until we lock. Especially towards the end when you can look at the project as a...

    What NLE Do You Use?

Almost all the TV shows I do are on Avid. Indie features I use FCP 7, mainly because it's on my rig which they rent. The ad agencies are split between Avid and FCP. So far only one agency is switching to Premiere but it looks like a few others are looking into it, especially those that are...

    Just confirming here...

I have seen people use that ratio, but technically it's not pure green as you can see. The most important part is the lighting, as you can key out just about any color that is well lit and does not exist in the foreground. Also, if you are painting a wall, primer is your friend.

    Sizzle reel: rights needed?

Yea, I would call those animatics. A sizzle reel sells a project or person, using their work or shot footage from the project (or multiple projects). An animatic is like a living storyboard and professionally I do this all the time (using existing shots from movies as a substitute.)...

    Sizzle reel: rights needed?

IANAL, but the short is answer is no you can't do that. Will they sue you, probably not. If they find it, you'll probably just have it taken down. If you want to do it, use a site that let's you password protect it and just give out the password to potential clients. While it's still not...

Can I legally use music if it's from a dead composer?

I believe Paul means let them take a stab at doing an original composition stylistically similar.

watch Music Video Filmed in a Forest at Night! (and underwater)

Very nice. Only tech comment would be the blacks in the forest bit look a little washed out. I thought it might be the compression, but they look good when the band is playing. May want to bring it down a point or two. Other than that, nice job

What program do you use to edit?

Yea Mile, from what I've seen in NYC editor's are checking out Premiere (as well as FCX actually) but very few jobs have been working on it. Don't know about LA or other places. We're all sitting around trying to guess who's going to win this round. The whole subscription based thing has just...

What program do you use to edit?

Unfortunately the future of NLE's is in a state of flux. Almost all of the TV shows I work on are still using Avid. In the last three years the five indie features I did were all Final Cut Pro. Before that it was a mix between Avid and FCP. Some editors seem to be giving FCX a shot. Some...

    Background change

You may want to look at a film called Jerry and Tom with Joe Mantegna and Sam Rockwell. It has a couple of unusual scene transitions. May not be exactly what you are looking for, but it was the first one that came to mind. Look around the hour mark at the theater scene. There are bunch of...

    watch My Microbudget Feature Film

EDIT: I'm a moron you weren't looking for suggestions First off, bravo!! I only watched the first twenty minutes so far but the animation in the title sequence is worth that alone. Actor's seem very good for a low budget situation. Looks well shot. Just on what I saw so far, my main...

    How I'm Feeling About Filmmaking...

Also, consider the fact that you may be in the wrong medium. A friend of mine was in a similar situation, had directed several features and was just dragging through them. He got a couple of commercial and music video gigs between features and man he really shined. Just the right amount of...

    Hollywood representation directory

Those books are out of date the second they are published. Anything that is in there you can find with more up to date info on the web, or by calling the main lines and asking who is the head of "insert department here" or whomever it is you are looking to contact.

Please I need help with stock footage

I use getty images for a lot of my corporate work. Shutterstock is another. I think Sony has one now. You have to pay for their stuff though. There are some public domain stock sites which would mean they are clear to use. Just do a search for them there's a bunch of both. Most places you...

Sound Track Bed Over Entire Film?

I was referring to a fully filled effects stem and not a combined M and E. Although they may take (or want) an M and E, you'd need to check your delivery items. I have had them ask for one or the other or both.

Sound Track Bed Over Entire Film?

My guess would be that they want a fully filled SFX track. They would need this if they are selling down stream to a territory that would want to dub the film into another language. This would be part of your delivery of Dialogue, Music and SFX stems. Say you have a scene where two people are...
