Awhile back I went to the store and asked them how much the lenses they sold were, and they showed me some...they were around $50 to $100. Yet on the internet, I hear that lenses are hundreds of dollars easily. Why is the discrepancy so big? I don't know what the difference in quality is.

Why is it that DSLR cameras usually start from around 18 mm, while they sell cheap consumer level cameras that start from 5 mm? The cheap consumer camera has a better wide angle lens capability?

Why is it that most of the t2i and gh2 are hacked? How would a regular person know how to open up a camera and do all that technical stuff?

It's not to be on network/major TV, but at the same time it's not some small local community station. The genre is hard to explain. It will feel kind of like a documentary but it is fiction...dark comedy might be a way to describe it. When I say documentary, I don't mean like blurry home...

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. If I have a good shotgun mic attached to the camera, why do I need a boom kit? When you say boom kit, I'm presuming you're referring to where there is a seperate person who holds up the mic above the actor's heads.

would you say there are any differences in equipment needed? What kind of camera/camcorder would you recommend in the $500 range? Are there any differences in shooting? Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I'm new to cameras/camcorders so I'm still trying to make sense of them. But I thought that camcorders also have interchangeable lenses. I went to a store where they said they could put different lenses (such as wide angle or fish eye etc) on the camcorder. As for depth...

Why do most people use DSLR cameras instead of something designed to shoot video like the Vixia HF G10? I don't think it's a cost issue, because there is the Vixia HFM50 for less than $600. And what's wrong with Panasonic video? I haven't really tried it to know.
