Seeking Advice. First Project. 48hr-film contest.

That's good advice. I learned SO much from this project, and it was only a 48hfp. I wish I had the time to volunteer on other people's projects as well. There are more people working on shorts and indie projects locally than I ever knew.

I normally work a 60 to 80-hour workweek, so the 48HFP was the best way for me to cram in a full short. Though I began to hallucinate from lack of sleep near the end of the weekend.

Well, here it is. For better or for worse, my first project. http://vimeo.com/user30603938/sargentossaddle My son was our team leader and executive producer. I was his "line producer" for the project. He also came up with the story and wrote the first script (then two other guys rewrote that...

We filmed in three different cities. The newspaper article above is from one of the cities, and tomorrow a newspaper from another city will run this article as well: http://copiousnotes.bloginky.com/2014/08/04/lexington-12-year-old-guides-film-to-louisville-fest/

Ha ha, yes, in Georgetown, KY it makes the front page. We had 30 teams competing in Louisville. Thing is, I have no idea how the media even found out. I have a lot of experience doing press packets and press releases from my job of the last 12 years and my undergrad education-- but the truth...

Judging by the trailers that have been submitted thus far, I think at least three teams here in Kentucky incorporated horses this year. But I haven't seen a DeLorean yet!

Thanks. I mentioned that idea to my son, and we just laughed and laughed about the idea-- and eventually, it just stuck. Well, I have negotiated a truce with my wife and I no longer have to sell all of my equipment and abandon filmmaking forever. However, there is currently an ironclad...

The team pulled it off, despite my inexperience and my setting them up for an extremely difficult (i.e. elaborate) logistical filming nightmare. However, last second total re-writes, our DP switching from DP to 1stAD, all three cameras with completely different picture style settings, I had no...

watch Max and Emma's Fifth Date

That actor is a very sharp and dedicated camera guy as well, and I suspect he'd make a good director too. What is the part of filmmaking you like most, Jeff? Did you write this one?

Steve, I'm not sure if he is scared or scarred. Maybe both! Our required elements were a slice of pizza, a professional athlete named Lucy or Lefty Ellsworth, and the line was "How was I to know?" We might have overdone the line because we were scared it might accidentally get cut, our use of...

How does that work exactly, best-of night? Is it just audience favorites or is that when the winners are announced? There is no way we will win anything, but I know our team members are going to ask about how the whole process goes.

Awesome. :) Well, this was my first ever forray into filmmaking, and I made EVERY mistake in the book (didn't I, Bob). Two of my awesome locations (a mansion from the 1860s and a Church in the same city) all fell through all at the last minute, and my only backups were 4 different locations...

I love your concept and execution 6o3. Wow. We just turned in our project (on time) last night in Louisville, KY. Bob, Jeff, and anyone on the team who reads this-- if I lived to be 100 years old and did something every day of my life to show you how truly thankful I am for all you did and...
