    The 100k Budget

A lot of film-makers dont ear-mark money for proper boom/mic, and it ends up costing more in the backend with post/ADR. Choose your recording talent carefully. Also, and I admit full bias here - remember that composers also like to get paid. I know I do!

Client from hell... can i withdraw my offering?

finish the 1st, withhold it until you get paid, decline the 2nd job. but i'd get legal help as well. anyone that is this much of a pain in the butt to work with will double their efforts to make your life miserable as soon as you get away from them :D

Ambient Noise ONLY - Music when Essential to Plot

there was a good use of sound etc in a recent episode of The Walking Dead. No music at all for a very extended scene. I think it's more than possible. From this composers point of view, I think a lot of stuff is over-saturated.

    Adobe audacity OMF Issue??

i have zero experience with that software - but - can you split the export into smaller chunks? or - save the file into shorter sections, so that when you export shorter sections, they all line up in your destination software? pain in the ass, i know.

    Audio Attenuator

he's saying that your mic isn't as sensitive as more expensive mics. think of having an attenuation control as how sensitive you want your mic to be. no attenuation - it's as sensitive as it can go, you're getting lots of signal. probably dialogue. -6db to -18db.. as above, if you're...

Can someone sue you if they were originally a part of your movie idea?

If you think there's a lawsuit coming, why not take care of it before anything can happen at all? Talk to him. Be diplomatic. You wanted to work with him for a reason, maybe there's a project in the future you can both work on. No point burning a bridge.

Composers - A Few Requests From The Audio Post Team

I find that stemming goes hand-in-hand with payscale. Myself, and people I know that provide stems (which is everyone I know) demand a higher rate that most producers/companies do not want to pay. Stemming takes way more time, or requires a 2nd system slave-locked to keep things moving smoothly...

    Rode NTG-2 vs NTG-3

I can't seem to find any reviews comparing one to the other - has anyone here used both? I'm leaning towards the NTG-2 because, well, i'm quickly spending too much too quickly. Also, if anyone has compared these to a hyper-cardiod dynamic or condenser (like cheapie SM57 or Apex 180) - would love...

    Shooting with the Canon T3i

Gibbo - thanks so much! Great info. I'm picking up a 28-135mm USM IS this week, for both shooting stills and having a bit of zoom. It's not a fast lens by any stretch but it does open up some options.

Shopping for my first DSLR Camera

i just picked up a t3i (600D) - and while i'm no pro, for the money it is a hell of a lot of camera. having fun so far but i'm not shooting anything planned (or even decent) yet :) just be sure to get a class10 (or better?) memory card for video.

    Shooting with the Canon T3i

So I picked up the T3i last night - what a smokin' deal.. i paid more for my s40 back in the day. Any tips on lenses, filters? since I'll be using a tripod for most shots, I assume used non-IS lenses are a good way to go?
