    Red Epic EVF/LCD standby/recording indicator??

It's been a while.... a technical problem on set brings me here.... Apologises first up if this is an easy fix but I am reasonably new to the epic and today we encountered an issue where the LCD and EVF do not display any indication of whether the camera is rolling or not and so we had to rely...

    Shooting with Canon and Nikon?

I have a shoot coming up where mostly due to budget constraints and ideas of the director we are shooting a Canon and Nikon DSLR side by side. They are in the same league as each other (6D and D610) but I need to find the best settings to be able to shoot and make them cut together. Has anybody...

    USB type c

They have different purposes. USBs primary purpose is reading and changing data whereas HDMI is transferring data to put it crazy simply. I'm not sure of a an example where USB is even used in place of HDMI?

    Flycam 5000

The are advantages to the MōVI system, and there are disadvantages. The biggest of which is that a stabilisation rig is upwards from $4k, DSLR flycam/glidecam/steadicam rigs are less than $1k.

    Low power generator?

This seems to be very close to what I am looking for, thanks heaps! :)

    Low power generator?

Oh I understand that, I've been on quite a few sets with them, of varying types and sizes, but they've all been at least 2k, which is power I don't need, and money I don't need to spend. If we need a generator big enough for that chances are I can convince a producer to hire one, but for much...

    Flycam 5000

I agree that the upper weight is often easier to balance. You could try adding a rode video mic or something to add to that weight, I've had some success with doing that. Glidecams have the better name, but at the end of the day I think it comes down to the user (practice :) ) and how it's...

    Low power generator?

So I was thinking it'd be cool if I had a small generator that could power just 2 or 3 standard house globes for when you're on location and need a cheaper and more portable solution for some fill light or something. I've searched different things like low wattage generator, 500w (and smaller)...

    Why do you make films?

Yeah but as I said I'm only getting 2 or 3 days a fortnight at the moment (that are paid). I've really only just entered the paying game, a lot of the work I did last year and in the years before was voluntary. (due to high school). This is because I am still in the very indie/student crowd...

    Why do you make films?

No no, I've really only just entered the industry. Mostly do small incorporate gigs, short films and student films. I almost can live off that and I've literally only just entered it. In 3 or 4 years I'll be fine. And I'm still studying FYI.

My main cast member and I constantly get in fights about the video quality of my film

Basically listen to this ^ (perhaps consider spending half your budget on an experienced actor, or all of it) I was just going from the angle that if you're spending $28k on a film it'd be a real bummer to shoot it on a piece of equipment of such low quality. But yes, if scenes are shot then...

    Keeping Production On Schedule

Yeah call sheets come under schedule :) Sounds like you've got your head around what the role is And to add to this the communication between them [first and audio] and then to the DOP is what can be the make or breaker of finishing on time. Getting things done smoothly is about...

    Proam jibs?

I'm looking into getting a Proam Jib. (http://www.proamusa.com/) I've used one briefly on set, but not really enough to get a real feel for what they are like. Curious as to anybody's thoughts on the products, is their life limited? Is it going to break after two years? Also wondering if...

    Keeping Production On Schedule

Hi Daniel, I noticed you asked what tasks to delegate to a 1st AD. From what I gather the biggest misconception about what a 1st AD does is that they assist the director creatively. They don't. To define a 1 firsts job in a word would be to say schedule. Their job is to make sure each department...

My main cast member and I constantly get in fights about the video quality of my film

A good camera will not make a good film. A good camera will not necessarily make a good story look like a great film visually. From a story perspective, amazing cinematography will only get you so far. As you yourself said other production values are what really make the film. Your film could...

    Why do you make films?

I don't technically make films anymore. I used to wear all the hats (write, direct, DP, edit etc). I started because in primary school a teacher saw that I was good and so taught me how to do video editing, which I then began with my friends. Working together to create something that somebody...

    My film school experience (diary/journal)

So I'm back. Living at a student res, working a tonne on short films and a whole heap of other life things meant that my time on indietalk faded away. (also because now my daily fix for talking about film is more satisfied :D ) I do want to say my attitude has changed and I don't like the way...
