YOU ARE ALONE wins 3 awards at IndieFest

Gorman, that's great news! Congrats! So when are we gonna get a chance to see "You Are Alone" here in CT? Do you have any showings set up at the local film festivals? Or maybe a premiere at some nearby indie theater? Sadly, the York Sq. has gone the way of many great theaters....it would...

So what did you do this week? (end 06/12)

Shaw, I built a wheeled dolly; it looks similar to a furniture dolly. Basically it tends to jiggle a bit over most surfaces. I was hoping to come up with something cheap that would be free of tracks, but it looks like I'm going to have to go the PVC track/skateboard wheels route. Or the...

So what did you do this week? (end 06/12)

Shaw, can you post a link to your $50 dolly plans, or tell us how you built it? I made a $25 dolly...it works like a $25 dolly. I figure a $50 dolly would be only half as crappy. ;) Bob

So what did you do this week? (end 06/12)

This week I transferred the mini-DV footage of my short "Death Knocks" to VHS, for preliminary viewing. I freed up about 7 GB of space from my laptop's drive; I've got to upgrade it, 'cause a 40GB just ain't cutting the mustard. I also have been enjoying as much time as possible on my...

No Experience, but want to gain some

The public access station I work with usually has people who need volunteers to help them produce their shows. Sometimes they'll accept complete novices who want to learn how to run cameras and production equipment. Take the production course, then you can work with their editing and studio...

    You Are Alone

Wow, yes it does...it has a very dark and disturbing feel to it. I know I'm going to see this movie; I just hope I won't want to kill myself afterwards! ;) It has a nice rich "filmlike" look to it; what did you use to shoot and edit it? -Bob

    You Are Alone

Gorman, great! Good luck with FFNH. And yeah, I looked at the Bethel Film Festival website, and I agree that they don't seem to be going out of their way to encourage filmmakers to submit locally produced films. The "Get Bulletins" link is on the main Bethel FF page, right under the Submit...

    You Are Alone

Gorman, did you see Film Fest New Haven (www.filmfest.org) has something like a $10 submission fee for films with Connecticut connections, and yours certainly qualifies. Are you going to submit? I think the advanced deadline is June 1st...hey, it'd be great to see it locally at a fest.

Heh heh...I'd buy a ticket for that! But really, wouldn't lethal injection be a little TOO kind to her? I was thinking it would be more appropriate to make her a real-life special effect in the movie, if you catch my drift. Sort of poetic justice. I'm curious to see what other projects...

    You Are Alone

Gorman, congrats and good luck with the festival! I can't make it down to Brooklyn on the 9th (previous committment...alright, Thursdays are my sailboat racing nights; my crew would kill me if I abandoned them), but I wish you all the best! Keep us posted on more local screenings, and I'll be...

    Our first shoot

Good to know, thanks Shaw. Another note...we scheduled another shoot date for the 23rd. Boy, will I be glad when we get done with production and can REALLY start putting this thing together!

I dunno, I think I agree with Gorman here...it was almost like a huge buildup to a letdown. Suddenly, the Mirimax (Dimension)-Disney divorce, along with the story problems that became apparent with the film and will require some reshoots. But overall, I'm happy to see the studio enthusiastic...

    Our first shoot

Thanks Will, that sounds like a good solution...I have a question though; does it matter WHAT miniDV cam you use? For instance, if I shoot my footage on an XL2, can a cheapo busted Panny miniDV camera be used to transfer the data to my editing PC? Is the Firewire/miniDV/IEEEwhatever transfer...

anyone watching the new Project Greenlight

Of course it is. Having a real studio to work with, along with a multi-million dollar budget...Christ, I'd fooking LOVE to have an opportunity like that! If PGL goes for a 4th season, I'll submit an entry. I checked out the top ten entries on the Bravo web site, and I know that I can be...

Yeah Spinner, I kind of agree...Gulager expected all his family members to be obvious choices for significant roles in the movie. He needed to learn that he's not making a video movie in his basement for his friends. I think that's the reason Michelle Gertz (the casting director) decided to...

    Our first shoot

Thanks Jason...the second day of the shoot went well also, and it looks like we'll need a 3rd and 4th, too. The studio is only open limited hours, so we can't get more than about 2 hours a night to shoot. I'd love to have a good 8- or 10-hour day to wrap this thing, but we have to adapt to...

    Our first shoot

Thanks Ed...what are you up to these days? We're probably going to start pre-production on another shoot as soon as production wraps on this one. Let me know if you're working on anything. Spatula, I never thought about that! We're using borrowed cameras, and we don't have them long enough...

Hey, congrats; and good luck with the national deal! Start working on your pitch for the network brass!

    Our first shoot

Yes, that's exactly what I'm finding out; making a film is a logistical puzzle (or "nightmare" perhaps). Being innovative and flexible are both necessary traits for a filmmaker...along with having a good crew which is willing to work hard. I'm also learning that working with talented actors...

    Our first shoot

Poke and Boz, thanks for the good vibes! Things are moving ahead, and we have another day of shooting scheduled for Monday. This will be the fun day, where the actors get to wear costumes and go WAY over the top acting! I'm looking forward to it. http://www.futuredv.blogspot.com
