    Getting a good to-go laptop

Wouldn't touch a low end AMD processor(especially a mobile one), they won't hold a candle to an Intel. Plus, all you have is the poor gpu built into the chip. This Asus for $600 isn't a bad deal. Much better than that HP for $550. Upgrading it to 8GB would be all that would need to be done...

    First Serious "Short"

I recorded just my own footsteps(and the ambient sounds) by myself after my brother went inside. So, I'm exactly sure what you're hearing. I would have liked to, but the mount shoe thingy on mine has been missing forever. I need to buy myself a nice fluid head anyway, whenever I stop...

    First Serious "Short"

It's really weird. The exposure locks and doesn't change when it's recording, but it doesn't even change once recording starts and it's not locked. Oh Nikon... Things like this make me wish I knew I would have got into film making before I got this camera. That video explained it well...

    First Serious "Short"

In theory(see below) I shot it at 1/50. And by smooth, I meant there was no motion blur to the actor. But, I imagine that is because I followed the actor. Filmed at 24 fps. Shutter was supposedly 1/50, but God knows what the D5100 actually had it at even when ae locked. I feel like no...

    First Serious "Short"

I just had him stop walking, then I moved, and had him walk again. I wasn't even thinking about alternating the angles until in post, hence the reason he teleports backwards. Never heard of the 180 degree rule, but I assume in this case it was going from over the shoulder to looking at him...

    First Serious "Short"

Decided to get outside and shoot something today since it was "nice" out (a balmy 38°F). This was my first time going for something cinematic, not just recording motocross. First time manually focusing. No tripod was used. No real story or idea behind it. Did it all as one take, walked...

    Gear for the Sony NEXVG20

Give you budget. You mention affordable, but that can vary greatly. For some budgets $250 is affordable, and for others $25,000 is affordable.

    Talent Advice

I couldn't imagine just blowing off something I told someone I'd do that was a serious thing, unless I had an emergency that I needed to allot time to. I'd have an even more difficult time doing it with something related to film making. But, I definitely see where you're coming from. It's...

    Talent Advice

I'm looking to create a short that has two teenage girls as characters. Still being in school, I could have no problem finding two friends that would be more than happy to volunteer. But, I don't want two people that aren't going to take it seriously and gain nothing from it. At the same...

Fast & Furious 6 - Extended First Look Trailer

I'm more excited about the get-to-gether and shenanigans with all my car buds and a bunch of other car fanatics, than I am about the actual movie.

    SFX Makeup vs. Animation

I'm planning on shooting a short horror at the beginning of this summer. Just trying to get my plan of action prepared right now. I need a monster/demon/creature/scary-creature to pop out for a second or two. I know two people who are in-school; one for special effects makeup and one for...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Mama - 6.5/10 I saw the short of it at the Cleveland International Film Festival last year, so I was excited when I saw they had gone from a minute long short to a feature. I'm glad I saw it, but it wasn't anything special. For the $5, it was worth it. I wouldn't have felt I got my money's...

    Looking for opinions ASAP

Just because you can throw an adapter on it and make it work, doesn't mean you should. You're always going to be better off using a lens with a mount for the body, rather than using an adapter.

    Production name

I was just about to make a thread like this. I'm having the hardest time thinking of a production/studio name to stick to my work. It'll hit me sooner or later.

    Looking for opinions ASAP

I'd take a Nikon or Canon DSLR over a mirorless, like the GH2, if you were looking to do photography with it too. Granted, it's mostly up the photographer's skill level once you get out of the point and shoot market. I'm sure I could get similar results from a GH2, but the a DSLR has more to...

    > Examination: YouTube Top Content Providers

My preliminary plans for the new channel Premise: I was pondering ideas for a simple, no/low-cost budget production that can have at least a weekly video posted. I've pondered this in the past, but with nothing that struck me. This time I was instantly struck with the idea to make quick...

    > Examination: YouTube Top Content Providers

I kind of stopped reading after page 9 or 10, so I'm a little lost on exactly what has been going on. But, I've collected that at first videos were being analyzed, and there's on going analysis. Then individuals made channels that all linked to a central channel(don't really get this). And on...

editing Cheap(er) alternatives to Premiere Pro

I'm downloading CS2 Premiere Pro as I type, can't wait to see what it has to offer. In other news, I found CS5.5 Premiere Pro for $80 or I can get CS5.5 Production Premium for $325. I'm gonna pick up premiere pro whenever, if ever, I determine CS2 is no longer serving my needs well enough.

editing Cheap(er) alternatives to Premiere Pro

The lowest I could find it was for $400, if you could point out where to get it for $300 that would be fantastic. Either way, I think I'm gonna just use Creative Cloud or use Premiere Pro montly till the Spring. I won't have much time to devote towards film and videos will I'm in school. But...
