Uhhh legally I guess you could. But it'll depend on what Judge you get.. because you'd be the first case of such a situation. The result of that case (if you even had the money to push it up the chain) could ratify exact percentage of a film one could pull from directly to use for a parody...

archived-videos Star Trek - Horizon: Feature Film

So I skimmed through this... Woah you have a LOT of special effects... Like skimming through I don't think I landed on a scene that wasn't covered in special effects..... That's impressive for an indie.. I do see you Kickstarted and your credits seems to have a good number of crew. Wow. I...

"A parody is a work that ridicules another, usually well-known work, by imitating it in a comic way. Judges understand that, by its nature, parody demands some taking from the original work being parodied. Unlike other forms of fair use, a fairly extensive use of the original work is permitted...

I'm confused what this has to do with the topic... Software engineer or whatever isn't the film industry. He made money with a short, something everyone in this forum attempts or wants. Also if he could make 600 a week, four videos a month, he'd make more than the average American a year...

I don't think this is piracy at all. In fact it's a good example of parody. Which falls under Fair Use. For example, no one has sued the Bad Lip Reading people, have they??

If only? He has the biggest ad type on it... 250,000+ views now. 340 USD - 850 USD is the estimate using YouTube's average RPM span. I'd say that's a pretty penny considering he only spent a week working on this, minus the time for our insane classes we go through (some days are 16 hours...

Do you know Jurassic Park? There are HUGE dinosaurs in those clips that he removed... that's what is impressive... not that he removed the world Jurassic.

So I woke up this morning and hopped on Facebook. Pretty normal modern thing to do, right? Except my Facebook is flooded with all my classmates talking about another of our classmate's videos. Apparently it's started to go viral, starting at only like a thousand views from yesterday to quickly...

    Why basic makeup

https://moviemakingandcinema.wikispaces.com/Make+Up My significant other is a make-up artist... so she'd most likely explain it better than I could... she'd also most likely not just give you a link... My favorite thing about makeup is that it removes the shine that lights cause on a person's...

    format A/V Script Formatting Opinions

So, in school I was only taught Spec Script formatting and had to learn others on my own (something that kind of upset me). I'm sitting at my computer almost 5am and I can't sleep because I have an idea in my mind that I think after years of letting it sit on the shelf, that I can finally do...

^^^ that's all awesome. I have some classmates that entered... a long time ago (previous post), but haven't asked them about it since. If things go well and you have a second year, I hope to participate. I'd like to see how your help developing the winner goes mostly :P

announcement Good things coming in 2016

Ehhh... I used to be really into this site before going to school... within my first film class I learned more than I would have ever on this site... Since... I still like the site. I like seeing what people are doing? If lighting or colorist questions pop up I enjoy pitching in... I count how...

*Cough* Also... in this new IT site... will I still have a constant NEON YELLOW bar on the homepage reminding me that my Premiere Membership has expired? Not that I don't understand... but I've considered writing a CSS modifier to load when I come here so I don't have to keep looking at it...

lighting what is the best way to light a really dark scene.

Well shit, thanks. I'm actually gonna pick some black foam core up now haha. Grip head... do you own C-Stands? I've always rented grip gear... are they affordable? lol I'd use a Duckbill also, doesn't damage the board. Not something I'd worry about with foam core, but I do when using B-Board.

Should I produce a movie and not do anything else on it?

Well... h44.. Producers do more than I think you know. This conception most likely comes from being an indie. Indie productions tend to not have a real producer. They have a director that's wearing too many hats. I'm sure you've seen directors calling people to put together the entire crew...
