Balckmagic Pocket Camera: What would be good lenses for it?

Would you recommend finding a lens with stabilization to be my first one? I'm thinking about trying to save up for one wide-angled lens, and at least one other lens that has the ability to zoom (not that I'm going to use zoom a lot, but it would be nice to have the option!). I might find an...

Balckmagic Pocket Camera: What would be good lenses for it?

Thanks so much! You just answered my next question about how to determine that since it's not a full-sized sensor! Good to know it's as easy as just multiplying by 3. :) D'oh! Figures. Thanks for catching that! I'm probably going to go with the first one you linked to. :) @Jeff: Dang, I wish...

Balckmagic Pocket Camera: What would be good lenses for it?

So, I've been out of the filmmaking loop for a while (not that I was really ever in it :P ), but last I checked a DSLR gave you the best bang for your buck! Now, today I learned about the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, and I'm simply blown away by the price and the image quality! Not so keen...

Want to record in 2:35:1 AR but need a mask on camera display?

Wheatgrinder, it'll all be post work in which I crop the footage to simulate a 2:35:1 ratio. I won't have a squished or distorted image at all. Or, rather than cropping, I'll just slap a filter on the footage like I did with some test footage I shot with my phone earlier. :) Link. I'm...

Want to record in 2:35:1 AR but need a mask on camera display?

Hey thanks, I could probably eye-ball from 2:55:1 to 2:35:1 pretty easily! I'll definitely go with the t3i then, and maybe someday I'll be able to get an external monitor to help me out a bit. :P

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Blast from the Past, starring Brendan Fraser, Christopher Walken, Dave Foley and a lot of other people. It's my family's all-time favorite movie so it automatically gets an A+, and here's why! 1) - Successfully showcases the cultural differences only 3.5 decades can make (move takes place...

Want to record in 2:35:1 AR but need a mask on camera display?

Hi all, Pretty soon I'll be buying either an EOS Rebel t2i or t3i (whichever one happens to have a better price when I shop for it), and I'm going to shoot my first video with it in the 2:35:1 anamorphic aspect ratio. However, I can't afford an external display that will provide guides on the...

This is hilarious! I love the lead, he does a great job acting while drunk! This has become one of my favorite things ever!

Canon HF G10 - Anyone messed around with it?

Dang, that xa10 looks pretty good! I'm gonna have to do way more research on that one now. :P For only $500 more with better audio input options, it definitely seems worth it...

    color-grading Final Cut Express Upgrade?

I wouldn't upgrade to the new FCP X if I were you. Apparently, Apple removed support for a few formats (not sure which ones, but ones still in fairly common use), added some unnecessary "features" (such as that new magnetic snap thing), and overall it's just not a pro application. The...

Canon HF G10 - Anyone messed around with it?

I'm looking for feedback on Canon's new-ish Vixia HF G10 camera. It has a dedicated focusing ring, solidly built body and lens cover thingy (boy, I sound so professional there, don't I?) to help keep out the sun's rays during outdoor shoots. I've been looking on Vimeo and YouTube but haven't...

film-school is film school worth it?

Personally, I think it depends on the individual. I've learned a lot about how film making works, just from researching the subject on my own and asking a TON of question on this forum. I've done thousands (I don't think that's an underestimate) of hours of Googling over the last five years or...

sound Making digital audio sound analogue: Will my idea work?

I wasn't sure what worldizing was, so I looked it up, and now I REALLY want to try it! :D

sound Making digital audio sound analogue: Will my idea work?

I don't have it yet, but I used the trial of Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum to create this video and distort the audio in that video and really liked it. The software Sony makes is some of the best software I've ever used; I like it much better than any Adobe program I've tried (both the pro...

sound Making digital audio sound analogue: Will my idea work?

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do now. Do you have any recommendations for audio editing software, Alcove? I'm thinking about Sound Forge from Sony; has anyone had any experience with that?

sound Making digital audio sound analogue: Will my idea work?

Yeah, most definitely. Soundtracks are incredibly important and I do not underestimate them (mostly because I learned not to with a few experimental videos I did a few years back :P ). I just REALLY want to give this movie of mine a "nostalgic" feel, and this is my plan on how to do it...

sound Making digital audio sound analogue: Will my idea work?

So Wavosaur doesn't have any good filters at all, unfortunately. I think I'm going to look at Audacity and see if it can't do more advanced editing. Does anyone have any recommendations for audio editing software that has a lot of filters?

sound Making digital audio sound analogue: Will my idea work?

Hehe. :P So I found some pretty interesting free audio editing software called Wavosaur. I'm going to explore its filters and see if I can't use it to recreate an analog sound. I'll post my findings here. :)

sound Making digital audio sound analogue: Will my idea work?

One of the main reasons I want to try my hand at engineering my own analog soundtrack is that I want to see what it was like to edit things together back in the old days of cinema. In my opinion, the old days of cinema had more talented people working to create amazing films than today...
