archived-videos "As the Clock Ticks" - Experimental black-and-white test

Hi all! So over the last couple of days I decided to try my hand at emulating the look of early 1950s film, and made it in black-and-white for good measure. I'll just post the description from my Vimeo account here: As said above, this is a test video for a very spoof-tastic film I'm...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

You have no idea how happy all of that has made me! Indeed it does! And yes I realized it. :P It just would be easier (or, more accurately, light on the mind) to just pay it all at once instead of worrying about a monthly charge!

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

So I couldn't get Lightworks to work in a Virtual Machine, turns out it didn't like the virtualization of an internet connection and just wouldn't activate. Oh well. Just for grins, I downloaded the trial of the new FCP X. It's heaps and bounds better than the last trial I used, and I could...

Crispin Glover on self financing a film.

I wonder, did David Letterman ever realize that was all a stunt pulled by Crispin? Joaquin Phoenix did a very similar thing not too terribly long ago... minus the kicking, of course. :P Definitely some good ideas in that article, thanks for sharing! :)

What ND filters would you recommend, Will?

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Heh, good point. I guess I just meant that it would potentially speed up development. I'm just a wishful thinker! In the meantime, I'm downloading VMWare Fusion, Ubuntu, and I will try Lightworks that way - I know it won't be the most efficient test, but I figure if it runs well in a virtual...

    archived-videos Pilot aiming for NETFLIX!

    That's fantastic! I wish I could afford one. :P

    Need ideas for more lenses!

Not technically, but if you look at the pictures/videos people have taken with it, it has a VERY similar look to a fisheye. In other words, it's only good for faraway landscape shots, or for adding a really unique look to some videos. What I meant to say in my last post is that somehow, it has...

    archived-videos Pilot aiming for NETFLIX!

Now THIS is a promising looking thing! What camera(s) did you shoot this on? If it was a DSLR, that's outstanding. Excellent work. You're very inspiring!

    Need ideas for more lenses!

Yeah, I'm going to get the Tokina afterall - somehow the Rokinon 14mm is a fisheye, while the Tokina isn't. Plus the Tokina, as you said, gives you a bit more options! And 8mm lens would be kinda fun, though! :P

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

I could see it benefiting from both models - if it goes open-source, a lot more people could help add/fix features, increase support, and help stabilize a lot more releases. However, too many cooks can also spoil the pot! EditShare could do with a few more native Windows, Linux and Mac...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

I have done a lot of looking into Lightworks. It looks seriously impressive, at least for a free editing application. The pro version looks even more impressive and offers a lot of cool stuff! But, it's still lacking in terms of DVD authoring (something you can get through CC, albeit a really...

    Need ideas for more lenses!

Ooh, that Tokina looks really very nice... that may very well be the first new lens I get. :D I will take a look at those others as well! Thanks Will! EDIT: Actually, I think I'll go with the Rokinon 14mm Ultra Wide Angle, since some of the new work I want to do this Spring involves a lot of...

    Need ideas for more lenses!

Hey guys, So I bought the T3i a while ago because of the problems with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (which, a month later they fixed every issue... of course! :P ), and so far I've still only got the 18-55mm kit lens. I'm wondering what other (Canon) lenses I should get that are...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

True. I think I'll just do that for now, since I really just need an NLE at the moment (iMovie is NOT enough for what I need to do!). I already have Motion 5 for effects/compositing work, so don't really need After Effects. And if I decide I DO want After Effects, upgrading my plan wouldn't be...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Sadly, no. I wish I were just for the pricing! I did just look into LightWorks - if they can get the Mac version out relatively soon, that would definitely tide me over until I could afford the CC subscription. LightWorks looks a bit like a simplified Avid - and that's a very, very good...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

I think you guys have convinced me to go the Adobe route. Although it might be hard to figure out a way to afford $50/month, it would be well worth it - especially since it would grant me access to literally EVERY pro application from Adobe! I thought it was $600 after the first couple of...

editing What's the word on the latest version of FCP X?

Hi guys, I'm still shopping around for some decent editing software. I was wondering how many people here have the latest version of Final Cut Pro X and if you could tell me what you like/dislike about it. Right now, it seems my only choices for Mac are Adobe CC and FCP X - and I'd rather...

    cinematography Camera problem

Rebel T3 doesn't have video capability, I believe. All the EOS (or EOS Rebel) cameras do. Those are the ones you want!
